Fallen in Love by Lauren Kate Review

This book is an 'inbetweeny' in the Fallen series by Lauren Kate.
It is the book the is told from other peoples perspectives when chasing Luce through time.
There are some romantic aspects to this book as you can probably tell from the title. It was not the romance that turned me off this book. It was the constant reminder that it was set around valentines day. It gave the whole book a cheap feel. Not because it was on valentines day , but because of the way it was portrayed in a way that made it obvious, that the book was created with the sole purpose of making a profit on valentines day.
To be completely honest there wasn't much that happened in this book that moved the plot along and this book is not entirely a must read to carry on the series.
As far as i can tell the history element is valid, but I'm not a historian so don't hold me to that.
It still has Lauren Kate's same writing style, nothing has changed about that which is good for me because i can't stand it when an authors writing style changes completely in the middle of a series. Definitely a pet peeve of mine.
For these reasons i gave this book a 4 i think on Goodreads because i do love her writing style, she is one of my Auto-buy authors and i appreciate all of her works.
I do not recommend this book to you, however, if the only reason you are going to buy it is because you want to carry on the series, seriously , go straight to Rapture. But if you like all that mushy stuff then this will be quite a nice read for you.

David Levithan, the realm of possibility Review, no spoilers

I borrowed this  book from  friend when i was bored one day, not realising that it was written by David Levithan.
This was an extremely quick read but i found it quite hard to keep up with what was going on at times. Not that the story is confusing as such but more because it is broken up by very cryptic poetry.

This is a story that embraces the teenage mindset and is told from a variety of characters point of view throughout the book. It explores how people use their exterior to put up a front to protect themselves but in reality they are all just as vulnerable as each other . I think that this is a good message to send to young people, because i know from my school days that it can be quite lonely having to pretend to be somebody else, in order to either keep friends or protect yourself from other peoples view points.
It also looks at issues such as self confidence and how everybody suffers with insecurity about something.
I probably would not reread this book, as it does remind me about a lot of things from school that i would rather forget and it is quite hard for me to follow, this is why i gave it a 3 on Goodreads. If that isn't something you are to bothered about or you are a young person in school this book will be an interesting read for you so i do recommend it.

Angelfall by Susan Ee Review

Angelfall was a good read. I'm still unsure as to whether i want to read the next in the series, or just pretend that it is a stand alone.
Your feelings about this book will definitely depend on how strong your maternal instinct is. Something happens in this book that involves children, and if you have a very strong maternal instinct, or have lost or nearly lost a child you may not want to read this book.
Angelfall is about a girl called Penryn, who's sister gets taken away in the apocalypse type setting. Penryn goes through thick and thicker to get her back, and is forced to form alliances with an angel. Enemy of the humans in this world.
They each have something that the other can help them get but don't trust each other very much.
One thing that i did really like about this book was that the romance is there, but it takes a back seat only popping up now and again.
This book explores the concept of mental health also. Whether it is executed well is not for me to decide however as i have been lucky enough to have never had to experience it.
Angelfall was quite vanilla for the majority.. until i got to the end. The ending of this book is quite peculiar, and as far as i know, unique. I certainly haven't read another book with an ending similar to Angelfall.
The only thing about this book that i really didn't like was that the personalities of some of the characters clash with my own, so i had trouble seeing things from their perspective. But everybody is different so i will recommend this book, and rate it a 7/10 because it had a good ending, but because of the characters I'm unsure as the whether to go on and read the next in the series.

October TBR :)

My October TBR list consists of very short books to make it easier to get through as many as possible that i actually want to read in a busy month. This will make it easier for me to fit them around my new routine and studying. There is only one fashion based book which is surprising as i initially thought the majority of the list would be made up of books from this genre. These are the books i would like to complete in October... although this may not be achieved.

The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald-  192 Pages

The Surreal Body:Fetish and Fashion by Ghislaine Wood-96 Pages

Fallen in Love by Lauren Kate- 201 Pages

AngelFall by Susan Ee-288 Pages

September Wrap Up

I did not complete all of the books on my TBR as i had anticipated but i plan on spacing my reading out more that i have done in the past to find a nice balance between study and reading time. This month i also began reading The Great Gatsby and AngelFall. Both of which i will finish reading in October. Many of the books in my October TBR will be either course related or books left over from September that i have not started nor completed. I plan to have this up in the first week of October.

Passion Lauren Kate Review

This book is by far the best in the series so far!
The pacing is great and the character development which was almost non existent in the first two is huge in this one. The plot twist at the end will screw with your mind. it is a honker!
I can't wait to read fallen in love in rapture now! I can't even fathom what is going to happen.
Luce does a lot less grimacing and Miles and Shelby only make a brief appearance.
Bill is not all he seems! That is the only spoiler i am going to give you. I am super excited to keep reading this series. I will definitely be rereading this one.
The time travel in this book seems realistic enough for me but history is definitely not my strong suit.
My only issue with this book is that the chapters are set out strangely. By which i mean there is a long chapter (about 20-25 pages) and then a short chapter (about 8-14 pages) which is very off putting when you only have a few minutes and absolutely have to finish a chapter like myself to avoid constant irritation. Overall this book was good, could have been better in the sense that it was sometimes hard to follow. i gave this 4 stars on goodreads i think.

Torment by Lauren Kate Review

This book is very repetitive of the first in the series. Luce goes to  new school, theres a snooty girl and a boy that creates difficulties for Luce and Daniel and then at the end there is a lot of drama that Luce has trouble getting to grip with.
I am fairly unimpressed with this series so far because this book followed the same structure as the previous, in the sense that it was extremely slow and hard to keep reading for the majority and then the pace picks up towards the end, and everything happens in the last chapter and you have to read the next book even though you know how excrusiating slow it is. This book did leave a cliff hanger unlike the first one which hints rather strongly that the next book will be very different than the first to however so i will give it a try and if i don't like it after that one this is just going to be one of those series that i just don't finish.
I am also unimpressed about the typo (there is only one that i came across), there is simply no excuse when it comes to spelling when you are writing at a professional level for me! I'm sorry but there isn't, you have been learning it since you were 4 years old, how does all that knowledge dissipate as soon as you start writing a novel?
I'm not a big fan of how the story is centred around the romance of Luce and Daniel but thats just my personal preference. Shelby's language also bugs me at times, at one point she uses the word 'spaz' in a negative context, not only is the word offensive slang in itself but young adults don't use this word anymore. It gives the book a less authentic feel to it.
The character development in this series is okay so far but Luce is seriously taking her time with this maturity thing, she needs to stop expecting everybody to hand her everything on a silver platter like you would expect of a child and go after what she wants, accept the consequences and stop taking orders Daniel! This is not the book to read if you like a strong female lead like myself but hopefully this will pick up as she becomes more independent in the next book.
I would say that i am fairly unimpressed by this book but i also believe that there has to be the bad book of the series to keep the balance so i am hopeful that the next ones are going to be the best yet.
